Charles Row was called to the Bar in 1993 by Lincoln's Inn and moved to Bristol from Western Circuit Chambers in London. He became involved in Serious Fraud Office cases including the defence of R v Robinson. The case lasted over a year and from there he moved on to other fraud cases including Money Laundering, Theft from Employer and General Business related crime.
His practice also includes a range of Serious Violence type cases, Drugs (with particular interest in Conspiracies). He Prosecutes and Defends.
Whilst the bulk of his practice is in Bristol he is available for work all over the Western Circuit making regular visits to Exeter, Swindon and Gloucester.
Of particular note this year was his junior role in defending Rachel BAKER, accused of murdering residents at her care home in Butleigh, Nr Glastonbury, Somerset, while at the same time abusing residents' prescribed drugs. The case was particularly well suited to Charles' talents being high volume and demanding of attention to detail, whilst requiring significant inter personal skills. Immediately following that case Charles defended a manslaughter case where the defendant was just 18 years of age. Charles then went back to Reading Crown Court to complete a confiscation hearing in the case of R v Johnson, convicted last year of conspiracy to steal from country house properities in and around the Home Counties.
From there Charles went on to defend and prosecute historic sex abuse cases.
Substantial cases in his diary for the coming year include:-
- mortgage fraud - Southwark Crown Court
- probate fraud - Cardiff Crown Court
- pyramid fraud - Bristol Crown Court
- Serial, historic rape with five seperate complainants
- Rape of a three year old child
- Death by Dangerous driving
Particular Areas Of Interest Include: -
- Proceeds Of Crime
- Conspiracy
