Crime


Ruth is experienced in both defending and prosecuting cases and has always specialised in Crime.  She has recently accepted an invitation to teach Criminal Litigation as a visiting lecturer to legal executives.

Her defence practice has included being instructed in sex cases (including rape, pornographic images, young defendants and multiple young complainants), arson, drugs supply, violence (s.18 and below), robbery, dishonesty (including frauds) further to significant conspiracies to defraud, burgle and rob.  

Prosecution work has included instructions from the CPS, DEFRA, RCPO, DWP and Local Authorities.  Ruth is frequently instructed by the CPS in cases involving  sex, violence and drugs and has been used by CPS regions both on and off circuit.

Ruth is recognised as a strong but sensitive advocate with particularly well-developed skills in handling cases involving difficult clients and/or those with mental health difficulties. She also has broad experience of cases including paperwork and/or schedule elements.
 

Interests:
Horse riding, snow sports, fell-walking and squash.
