George Threlfall is an advocate of great experience and has practised on the Western Circuit for many years. He both prosecutes and defends.
Prior to 1991 he was a member of Western Circuit Chambers in London. In 1991 he moved to Bristol and now practises principally in the Crown Courts at Bristol, Exeter, Gloucester, Swindon and Taunton. However his practice is not confined to the Western Circuit and recently he has been instructed in cases (two frauds and a drug importation) in the Crown Courts at Birmingham, Cardiff and Sheffield. He is currently instructed to prosecute a sensitive case at the Crown Court at Shrewsbury.
He has experience of high profile cases (eg R v Tracie Andrews) and substantial frauds (eg he was a member of the prosecution team instructed by HMCE in Operation Barlow (R v Carlton and Others) – an early diversion fraud). He has both prosecuted and defended in VAT frauds.
George Threlfall has extensive experience of defending those with professional and managerial backgrounds who have been charged with criminal offences (recent examples include a solicitor charged with mortgage fraud, a solicitor charged with theft from client account, the headmaster of an independent school charged with sexual offences, a chartered surveyor charged with ABH and a senior manager in a plc also charged with ABH, a doctor charged with wounding with intent). In the past he has defended a police officer charged with rape and a company secretary charged with fraud.
